We needed comfort and safety.

We needed learning, regardless of gender, race, religion or ability.

As we grow, we stay like children.  We were all children once.

We all have human needs.

We need food.  Watermelon rules!

End of First Grade Party.
I love watermelon thanks to this memory.
When I am homesick, watermelon brings me back!

We need friendship and community.

Children in Uruguay

We need to develop a sense of self.

We need to find ways to express ourselves and share our views as we grow.

My students performing at National History Day.

As the world grows scarier and scarier, as violence threatens war and the media augment hatred, remember this:  were were all children once.  The children need us.  Treat children with love and the future will bear the fruits of love.

Tell the students what my Emirati friend told me:  We are the present. You are the future.

Teach the children to teach the future love.
