Microaggression? Don't touch my hair! :)
I’m not sure why this is on my mind today, but I woke up thinking about how I hated it when I was a kid and well-meaning adults would go up to me to touch my (frizzy/curly/wild) hair and how I was taught to say “baaa” .... until my Papa had a sheep wool vest (must have been a thing in the eighties?) and he tried to make it okay..... or how kids on the bus used to hit my head to see if the hair was protective and I would wince but say “no, it doesn’t hurt”, because I was told by adults not to be a crybaby/ not to let people know how much they are hurting you.
I hope this doesn’t happen to other people now... but in case it is unclear... even if you think it’s cute, not every child likes to have their head touched!
