I ask you to listen to this— it is not what you think. Not just another “singers in boxes” or another “Emily peace song.” This hit me profoundly in a different way.
I have not been able to really listen to this song since Ally died. This time, I could not stop listening. This was so healing to me- missing her, missing the De’s, missing live theater, missing speaking Yiddish with my grandparents, missing world travel…. All of that was here.
This is people coming together from all over the world, singing the same song in many languages. This is inclusion— there is not a gap between stage performers and pit performers, there is not a divide between religions or continents…
These are people who ache for theater and long for health and know the healing power of song… and how we have been denied sharing song in person for so long. These are musicians who know the world is aching and scared and who offer a Fiddler prayer that can soothe my aching soul.
Take a peaceful moment and hear this Sabbath prayer, amen. (See what I did there?)
