A Brief Note on Being Single

 Just had an interesting realization.

In my senior year of high school, instead of AP English, I did an independent study with Fritz. I focused on female writers of the 19th century, specifically Emily Dickinson, Emily Bronte, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, and Christina Rossetti. (You can add in Elizabeth Barrett Browning and -- not exactly of the same era-- Edna St. Vincent Millay, but they don't fit into the realization.)
All five of them were unmarried women who never had children.
People ask me how I accomplish all I do. I LOVE kids, it's true...but I think my single status gives me time and freedom (and energy!) to explore all the realms that thrill me. Maybe it's a little selfish, but it's a good life.
